Yes hopefully the money doesn't run out before the SQ gets it's upgrade. A direct drive 6-pack bubble heated seats would be a 40+ year investment. The question is not if Boyne wants it but if that's where they want to put their money vs. another one at BigSky or Loon, etc.

With two high profile lift accidents I'm sure they are not skimping on the maintenance budget. Seems likely given the relatively low cost vs. PR/legal risk it's worth doing all preventative maintenance even if you're going to replace the thing in less than 24 months.

They do put continual $$$ into the SQ to their credit. $150,000 in 2011 to upgrade the drive systems from analog to digital (gosh that was long ago now), new diesel backup that is quieter, pretty sure a new top bullwheel a few years back, the gearbox etc.

As far as investments, sure WM wasn't new but it's still working as good as a new lift. KP has a new bottom terminal. Boyne is punching way above their weight when it comes to lift investments. Be glad SL is not owned by Vail Resorts or Altera.

It will certainly stop the bad luck they've had with SuperQuad. Hopefully the 30 year newer lifts come with less bad luck.

I don't ride that lift much anyways someone called it the Sunday River Area and I can't unsee it as such.

Taking a snobbish bro-brah attitude towards the SuperQuad really limits your Sugarloaf experience. Nothing better than the fresh groom on King's and Hayburner first thing in the morning. King Pine "bowl" gets groomed during last shift and never has time to set up. On a cold/windy day, SQ is more sheltered than Skyline and KP. I feel Bucksaw has helped improve the SQ area.

With the north / south alignment of that chair and prevailing winds from the north, a "sail" on the chairs could make it the first wind powered chair in history !

Hopefully SQ, but in terms of age, DR. SQ would take priority if I were king, which means that it probably won't.

Well i guess i half agree with the SR reference ..i avoid the SQ on busy days but if it’s not crowded I contend the SQ has some of the best skiing on the hill and best options for one ride up. I love me a nice high speed cruise down Tote when it is empty, it makes me feel like that video of the dude on a skate board rocking out to the Fleetwood Mac tune..just cruising with a big smile

I'm talking about typical reality. Sure, powder days are special. But if you love carving, fresh groom is just as good.

Even on a powder day, SQ has some goods. First run down Skidder is a good strategy. Most people avoid it, it's steep, it's right there off the chair, and it's a pretty quick way to get to Skyline. Also the glades between Skidder and Hayburner are awesome.

This weekend an ambassador told me that the reason King Pine gets skied off so quickly is because all the other trails get two passes with the groomers but KP only gets one due to how much time they have. I thought there's no way that's the case, your explanation makes more sense. Which is correct board members?

I always thought it was because KP area is groomed last.

Maybe a good teammate taking the heat off Timberline which leads the parade at 20 days with a hold out of 53 open.

Do you think that sometimes they say a lift is down for maintenance if its just uneconomic to run it given the number of skiers on the mountain? I don't know what electricity cost per day is to run a lift but I imagine not running a lift is a good way to increase profitability.

Watever is going on with it they're probably trying to get ahead of the problem prior to one of the busiest weekends of the year. It won't be pretty if it goes down Saturday of MLK Jr weekend.

No, I'm pretty sure they do not say a lift is on maintenance hold if they just want to close it due to lack of crowd. And SQ is the one lift that they always want to run.

0% chance they are looking to save on operating costs given this is the first and last lift they run and the main lift of the entire mountain.

When they want to save costs they change the lift schedule/opening times (see midweek and late season schedule)

Not very crowded today for a “holiday” weekend and we rode BS 5x before noon. If they both stay on hold it could be a long line afternoon

Went back over after lunch and the BS carpet load was not running but the lift was loading. Gates were kept open and carpet was covered in snow.

Late this morning they had two techs climbing the tower just above the cut-over to lower Skidder from Comp Hill. They weren't there very long...gone the next time I took SQ. One of the Lifties announced that the SQ was having "power problems" and encouraged people in line to consider other lift options. At that point (about 10AM) Skyline was on windhold so I'm not sure what he was suggesting.
