Maybe the 2-stage Gondola to replace Explorer lift and go up to the bowl?

Tram replacement is what my money is on.
Bottom terminal is moving so they have to replace it. Makes sense it will be a different base location and larger tram.

Maybe they will ship sugarloaf the old tram to be our signature peak lift.

I think it's more likely to rot in the woods along side the gondola cabins and the fixed grip quad lift that was delivered earlier this year.

Tram terminal could start at Mid X cut and run straight up to summ.... Nevermind too good to be true even though it would be no money

1995 vintage would make it one of the newer lifts at SL, same age as SQ. Those two 15-person trash cans going back and forth only move up to 200 people an hour

I think Big Sky bought the land they are on back in the 70's, so there's no danger of someone at Boyne forgetting to mail the lease renewal

This picture makes me laugh. To me it looks like someone all week pulling in the engineering models and rendering the main parts of the drive terminal that supports the motors and overhead guides, the gondolas, the towers and sheave trains, modeling the fencing and mountain in the distance, and then went, "Oh crap. It's Friday at 3, screw it, box on top" and shipped it.

Haha, yeah let's not get greedy. I would like to see someone make The Final Chapter Sugarloaf 2030 video featuring a rendering of a used rope tow set to the same dramatic music that is in the Big Sky video. Maybe the Sugarloaf video has pixelated Atari graphics, too.

I don't for you folks but, to me, the Powder seeker 6, has become completely, 100%, obsolete. No need to take that lift ever.

Is sugarloaf getting the Powder Seeker?? 8)

Nah, we don't need heated seats and bubbles, so will be happy rehabbing the old Swift Current quad

Yup we will get a "new used Swifty" and maybe they can send out explorer too. Seems funny to me that the used swift current lift from big sky will be the third newest lift at Sugarloaf as it was built a year after the superquad and a year before whiffletree. Will be great to have a triad of quads from 1995 1996 and 1997. The way I figure we can If we get explorer too it is only about 50 years old and would pair nicely with double runner.

Not needed to TOS, but maybe to Bullwinkles. Huge issue is wind.

Personally I think it would be genius, as long as they have the roof top balcony like the new tram cars going in at Snowbird this spring. 8)

ever ride the green mtn freezer at Jay?
is the top of the Zugspitz not windy?
how about lone peak?
maybe the aiguille du midi? think it gets breezy there?

wind is not, nor has it ever been, the issue.
ROI is the issue.

Perhaps. But I seem to recall wind was an issue with the previous gondola.

ROI would be less if the route was straight up the middle like the old one. Because you can't reliably schedule weddings at the summit without a major new summit lodge, and we all know that's not happening. Bullwinkle's is already ready for that.

Put me down for a Funitel before a Tram.

Apparently winds were as high as 70-80 mph today at the top of Skyline. So wind was an issue today. However, most of the time any modern lift would run. I just got back from a trip to Snowbird, Park City, and Snowbasin. I finally got a chance to experience an angle station - it didn't seem to be that big of a deal from an engineering perspective. I think it could be done from the bottom of West Mountain to the top of Sugarloaf.

I highly recommend Snowbasin if you haven't been. In addition to being huge and scenic it has a great local vibe and amazing lift system. The Allan Peak tram is super short and you ride up in an oversized beer keg. At the top you feel like you're teetering on the edge of the universe. I don't know about ROI but Sugarloaf should install a gondola because it's cool and keeps you warm.

Snowbasin is switching to Ikon pass next year (limited to 7 on full & 5 on base+) so going to be on a lot more lists. Powder mountain just up the road is also a good destination. Back to winds - we rode the Snowbird tram (and a quad) in 50 mph white out conditions, with gusts to 70 but neither stopped or went on hold. Didn’t know we were at the top of the quad until the slowdown/detach in the top terminal
