Update on the tbar from the CVA FB page:

The Podium Project is well under way! All permitting is in place to begin trail widening, installation of the T-bar, and automated snowmaking. Doppelmayr® has delivered the T-bar towers and components. Snowmaking equipment is starting to be staged near the Jean Luce Building. The fully-automated SMI Polecat Fan guns should be arriving next week! Trail work will begin on August 15th and, once the sight lines are cleared for the surveyors, Fall Line Construction, LLC can begin the installation of the t-bar and snowmaking equipment; this process is likely to begin at the end of August.

If I buy my wife a new car and give my son the old one did the family get two new cars?
:D

I realize they “refurbish” it and it is “just like a new lift” but it seems to me Sugarloaf is much lower on Boynes list and I worry with that status we are most likely to fall down the “to do list”. I hope the “new” lift happens but history demonstrates plans and implementation are two very different things.

Boyne is all in on new lifts for next year...
1. Big Sky tram
2. Big Sky gondola phase 1
3. Snoqualmie International
4. Brighton Crest D-Line
5. Gatlinburg gondola
6. Barker
7. West Mountain
8. Highlands D-Line?
9. Shawnee HSQ?

Entirely possible 8 of 11 resorts build lifts next year which would be unprecedented.

Well, in this case at least most of said "new" chair components of the lift have already been delivered on site. I'm sure some of the overhauled/replacement components have not yet been delivered, but in this case its not like SL is waiting for the lift to actually be fabricated.

If Doppelmayr is contracted to install the used lift next summer then that's what they'll do. Just like Loon this year and Big Sky a few years ago. There will be an agreed upon delivery date just like any other lift project.

Another reason to rejoice once the new T-Bar goes in... this will be first new lift at Sugarloaf since 1997. Maybe we're in for an avalanche of improvements this decade.

Fair enough. However I'll note that Sugarloaf remains as popular as ever, despite the perception by some that the lift system is inferior. The only thing that would make these people happy is some kind of enclosed lift running straight up Gondola Line from the base to the summit, and I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

Probably the most serious "need" that will probably be addressed next is replacing Double Runner. That's going to cause a big problem when we can no longer access #3 T-bar on a windy day.

Hopefully the CVA t-bar will be open to the public on a windy day when DRC replacement and #3 are the only lifts that can operate. Also hopefully DRC replacement will be fast and wind resistant

Maybe not condos but a new and decent secondary day skier portal is welcome IMHO.

Yes, I believe that is part of the deal. Not an optimal solution as it will be a significant skate/walk from the top of the DRC replacement to the bottom of the CVA t-bar, and another from the top of that to #3T. But I suppose it's inevitable.

Well if the windhold is during a busy day the line for the CVA T might stretch all the way to DRC unload. Maybe the #3 T line would be reconfigured to feed from gauge and would allow you to gradually slide over while waiting in line

The new tbar will have a much higher uphill capacity than t3 but no doubt they run it slow.

speaking for myself, the most transformative part of this whole thing is making the mud lots an actual attractive parking option. ski down to new lift from car, ski to skyline. i dont really care about the rest of it.

fix main street.

If they do like SR does with the Gould racing T, runs full speed for racer only use but they slow it way down when open to the public. Otherwise, Patrol is basically stuck waiting for the inevitable to happen over and over since most don't know how to ride a T these days, let alone one that moves faster than the current Barker HSQ.

As to moving or realigning the #3 T, we have discussed the issues with ANY change to that lift. And that is, any change will result in permanent crossing trail closures per the now in place ANSI codes. 3 as is gets grandfathered in, but any change negates that.

That will be a big boost to the customer experience. Ski in/ski out parking, amazing! As for the rest of it, I think there is a chance that the new ski trails could be really good for fast carving and cruising. The perfect slope for just tilting your skis/board up on edge and riding the sidecut without much worry is lower Spillway from where Old Winters Way comes in and down to the lift. I'm hoping the new trails will be like that. Could be a great option if the rest of the mountain is overcrowded or on wind hold. Sugarloaf doesn't have much of this slope. Most of it is either flat runout or bring your A-game steep.

fix main street.

I agree it's not the Stratton experience they were hoping for. How would you fix it? It needs more shopping/dining or something on the village side. The space under the ski shop where the Board Room used to be a long time ago could be put to better use. And do we really need a laundromat on main street? Ideally the village side would be built out further on the ground level to make the walkway more inviting and not so wide.

Since the town invested in the new T bar with taxpayers' money, can one assume that it is available for all ticket holder to ride it when it is running?

The town also gave money for a new bus wash station, are you going to try and make a case to use that as well?

That would not be a valid assumption, but I bet you knew that already (should be fairly obviously based on the stated goals and intent of the project).

For those of us who haven't seen the hardware

Equipment has arrived for the new Carrabassett Valley Academy T-Bar at Sugarloaf. The Doppelmayr lift will be installed between Competition Hill and Narrow Gauge, running 1,200 feet over the course of 380 vertical feet.

Also an update on all the installs around New England

As a constructor I would hate live stream camera’s on my project.

Last thing I need is some sidewalk superintendent trying to tell me how to do my job from 250 miles away.

In my current role I insist on them.

The dog is wearing a tie... Sugarloaf should understand enough about tech culture to know the best IT dog will be wearing a hooded sweatshirt... So good at programming webcams he's got nothing to prove, the pup doesn't have to dress up.
