Incredible last Maine Day

Incredible last Maine Day

Words can't really begin to desrcribe the conditions at Saddleback today. Whooooa it was treat. Spectacular coverage and nice dry powdery snow to say the least. It was very very busy too.... Probably the last 3rd parking lot day of the year. It wasn't unreasonable, especially since everyone there was either using their pass or paid only 29$ for a lift ticket. The Kennebago was the place to be. Had a pretty large crowd but the line was never more than maybe 10 minutes. I don't know how anything right of the Rangeley was because there wasn't enough hours in the day to ski it. Casablanca 3 and 4 were unreal, Govnah was great, Dark Wizard was lovely... The rock on Professor is completely skiable none the less covered. Jain Craig was awesome. In short, it was an amazing day all around. Didn't ski maybe three groomed trails all day. New snow is such a treat this time of year. Very very windy up top... But I give them a ton of credit for keeping the ASC accessible. Superivsor and Tightline were good... But the ice pellets came right up the trail and drilled you in the face. Warden's Worry, Lower Black Beauty were fantastic too. Only little minor thing is it was kind of ridiculous to be shutting lifts down at 3:40 when there's still 2+ hours of sunlight left. Especially since they're not going to be open for a week, at least let us take advantage of the sun this time of year. I must say 730 am skiing is nice, but 430 skiing is too. But if you can't enjoy today you can't enjoy skiing. Hopefully that changes though, because the weekends they're going to be open in May 330 is lunch time. As for the snow... So so so much. Never have I seen the Rangeley and Kennebago so close to the ground... I mean you couldn't even jump in the powdery side of parts of the Royal Coachmen because the chair is so close. They have PLENTY of snow to make it well into May, it's just a question of the will/skier backing. I'll keep going until after the lifts close.

Stopped in for my weekly chat with the Real Estate office. Not looking good for improvements. It was stated as they would be "Lucky" to get the Rangeley replaced in the next two years. A shift in market needs has Magalloway back to the drawing board, in West Bowl is still far far off too. They weren't very enthused lets put it that way. After seeing pass increases and stuff I thought that might lead to the needed new Rangeley, but not sounding like it's in the cards. Herd Chris Farmer is headed to Utah in the coming weeks to check out a potential quad lift that might be up for sale. Tough assignment. This is this weeks expansion vibe, so it might be completely different next week, who knows. It's to worry about and think about another day though. Saddleback has been so magnificent the last few months that I'm not sure if I ever want it to change... More potential for it to get worse then better I think. Simply amazing.

Sorry to ramble on...

No offense but having lifts open past 430 on Sundays when most people drive home on sundays doesn't make sense business wise.

hopefully May 1st will be the last Maine day

Development update is not on the mark

stay tuned in 60 days you may change your assessment of what you understand is getting done

We all must be patient. Let the GM's be the GM's and put the plans together... and us skiers can enjoy the spring skiing. Good call SB opening weekends til the people or snow runs out...
