Agree, but it sure was fun 8)

Starting with 12/16 right thru New Years Day was a great stretch of skiing and riding...33 inches of powder to start, and ending with a solid 3 days of spring skiing. One of the better Christmas breaks, however the mountain did not seem that busy.

I went up to bullies on 12/31 and you would've thought it was reggae there was so many people outside at the bar, same thing for the beach. I bet they made a killing on Food and Beverage.

Agree...New Years Eve was probably the busiest day of the week. I was speaking more in general terms of the entire break...Except for that day it was not busy at all, and really thought there would be more people skiing on 1/1 with most people having 1/2 as a holiday.

We bailed Sunday after a long tiring Saturday pushing around heavy piles. Also seemed like there was limited grooming overnight and with it so warm, the wet and open spots would have grown. Good to see winter has made a return and snowmaking is back at it!

By the time we wake up tomorrow we will likely have surpassed the 100" mark for the season and possibly even past last year's abysmal total snowfall of 103". Oh, and we still have the 3 snowiest months of the year to go!

Thanks Glade Monkey for creating this tracker - it is great!

101" season to date this AM, and not sure we'll get to 103" today since Kassandra is finishing up as mixed precip.

I can't take credit for creating it, but have expanded and tried to keep it updated. It has turned into a morning ritual - check the mtn report for snow, trail and lift counts about 6:30. Check @SugarloafSnow on Twitter to see what's going to be on hold, but I can usually tell by how the flags are flying on the Beach cam.
Then pop back mid-late day to see if Timberline got OFF hold, if any trails were added or closed and if there is an updated snow total.

(down here on the coast I went to bed with 2+" on the deck and the snow picking up. As forecast it switched to freezing rain overnight. Woke up to 1/2" of slush and steady rain, so won't even have to clear the driveway since the new stuff will all be melted by afternoon)

Not sure how this could be handled if at all, but there kind of needs to be an asterisk next to December. The 33" storm was quickly erased down to about 6" of net gain just a few days later by rain and warm temperatures. This is reflected in the trail count in the days following. So while we may be within 2" of the 2022 grand total of 103", it's really more like we have about 29" to go.

Then again there are always thaws/rains/washouts/resets every year it seems, so I guess it all works out.

More important than the total snowfall is a net figure of snowfall minus snow lost to rain. It's easy to see why 100" with no rain versus 100" with several warm rainstorms is a world of difference in ski slope conditions and especially areas like BB and any glades that depend on natural snow.

Glade Monkey, is it possible to get a cumulative column so we can have a line chart showing the jumps in snowfall totals over time?

Sure...not as familiar with SHEETS as EXCEL but it seems almost the same. Added a column called "Running Total" and then a quick chart showing cumulative snowfall by date (the chart is at the bottom of January but can be dragged around or even put on a separate sheet. If that's what you're looking for I could even try adding previous years for comparison...

I think the only way to reflect this is to have a daily measurement of base depth. The mountain used to do this, but I haven't seen it in years. Someone would need to take on the job of defining base depth, determining where to measure it, and then measuring it daily.

On another note may I just say January is exceeding my expectations that were set by December.

Thanks! Looks great! Maybe it would be good to add the running total for the other years overlaid on each other. Might be interesting.

As for the rain question, the NWS has a site in New Sharon that is the closest to the mountain we can pull historical precipitation data from that goes back a decade or more.

Might be good to have a link:
https://www.weather.gov/wrh/Climate?wfo=gyx

Might be tricky separating the snow from rain though as all the liquid amount is counted as precipitation, but snow is definitely broken out in daily totals. There's even a handy snow accumulation map generator.

And hopefully it will be considered peer reviewed!

I've added the other seasons to the chart, but the dates won't be lined up exactly and I can't figure out how to label each color line with the corresponding season.
No way I'm going to try and subtract totals by including r**n

4 days after Brackett closed and this still pops up on the home page. Plenty of places with more open including Saddleback, Sunday River and Killington.

This data set is cool. I really like the holdS as it puts in perspective the issues the mountain has with wind on TL and KP.

There is someone at Saddleback doing the same thing with data from SB, SL, and SR reports. I think they have wind hold info too. I forget where it is, they post it on the Friends of Saddleback FB group sometimes.

They must have found some snow (5") over the last couple days. I'm sure it happens a lot but since this thread is active, Sugarloaf is reporting 7" in 48 hours currently, when it really should be 2" ? 7 day total showing 19" really is only 12" also

They are probably measuring higher on the mountain. Recent social media pics seem to support the 7" claim.

They either can't count or don't know how to update the website
How can you have 7" in the last 48 hours AND 5" in the last week? (the second number should be equal or greater!)
Should be 0 last 12 hrs, 0 last 24 hrs, 2" last 48 hrs and 4" last week.
The 8" which they upped after the fact from 7" was outside a week ago now

While I'm at it, the report always talks about how many trails have snowmaking, but the number posted RARELY matches. For instance the report said White Nitro, Dropline and Sidewinder had snowmaking, but the number posted was 1. Looking at the trail details it was usually only one with the little snow gun next to it.

Weather.Com does not support 8 feet of snow since December 1, 2022.

Most of that will not melt with cooler tempertures coming in soon.
