Hunting Season and trail riding

Postby GoodTimes » Sun Nov 05, 2017 10:33 am

Other than not wearing a set of Antlers, a brown jacket and white towel tucked out the back of my shorts any Do's and Dont's over the next month.

Outdoor Center and Mtn property best compared to trails off of Guage and the huts and trails network?

No hunting within 200 ft of gauge. Single track riding good. I think ODC is closed. Hunting season/some saturated trails. Just be visible. Wear some orange. Have a "goodtime"!

Yep, saw some weaponry on the Gauge Saturday. Technically the only place that is off limits to hunters is Sugarloaf resort property proper. Hunting is allowed in the ODC, and pretty much everywhere else MTB trails exist. Just be careful, and ride on Sundays.

Is hunting allowed on the Bigelow preserve? I assume yes. Means hiking's a risk.

I’ve used a bell on my handlebars during hunting season. That didn’t stop a hunter from shooting his gun off near me just to let me know he didn’t think I should be riding titcomb mountain during hunting season. Cover yourself in orange and use a blinking red light. On my ride to work on the whistle stop trail (rail trail) I’ve seen hunters driving the deer onto the trail to an awaiting hunter. Expect Stupidity.

And yes, the bigelow preserve allows hunting. Hunters use the hiking trails.

Yes there is hunting allowed in Bigelow. I would wear orange for sure. Most hunters are respectful but I would be careful . If you are riding with a dog, get a orange vest for your pal and a bell for the collar. There is no hunting in Maine on Sundays .
Put a hook on that line
